The Bishop Volunteer Fire Department is gearing up for the 67th annual fireworks show at the Bishop Airport and they hope everyone will join in the fun this 4th of July.
Gates will open at 4pm and everyone is encouraged to tailgate before the big show that begins at 9pm. Bring a picnic, chairs, shade and your own Safe and Sane fireworks. It’s one of the largest community events of the year and enjoyed by many generations of locals and visitors. “As always, we’ve got a great sky show planned,” states BVFD Chief Joe Dell. “We’re also doing a few new things this year.” There will not be anyone manning the entrance gates to collect admission fees. Instead, volunteers will be roaming the crowds asking for donations to offset the cost of the fireworks show, which is nearly $30,000. Another new element will be a 50/50 drawing. Again, volunteers will be out and about at the airport selling tickets to the raffle. The winner gets half of the money from the ticket sales and the other half will help defray cost of the fireworks.
While the extravaganza at the airport is tons of fun, some people prefer to watch from their own backyard or other location. “We hope folks watching from outside the airport will help by contributing as well,” explains Chief Dell. “
Donations in any amount are greatly appreciated and they could mail or drop a check at Bishop City Hall.”
Chief Dell and all of the volunteers are grateful for the support of many co-sponsors including KIBS/KBOV, Coso Operating Company, Sierra Lifeflight, Paiute Palace Casino, LADWP and Preferred Septic and Disposal.
