Inyo County Office of Education: Sierra Adventure Summer Camp

Sierra Adventure Summer Camp 2019

The Inyo County Office of Education is happy to once again offer our Sierra Adventure Summer Camp for Inyo County middle school students! This year we have spaces for 60 boys (June 17-21) and 60 girls (June 24-28). It is open to all students who will be entering 6th , 7th , or 8th grade in Fall of 2019. The goal of this overnight camp is to provide a safe and fun experience away from home for a week. This time at camp fosters independence, resilience, responsibility, and confidence. Campers spend the week at the Sierra Adventure Center in Big Pine with a very qualified and fun staff of credentialed teachers and outdoor educators as well as responsible high school counselors.

Campers connect to the outdoors by playing outdoor games, wading through streams, creating nature art and crafts, building forts, exploring, observing local plants and animals, hiking in the Sierra, and sleeping under the stars on the last night. Other activities include an introduction to archery on our archery range, campfires with singing, skits, s’mores, swimming, Talent Night, a “Summer Camp Olympics” on the last day, and other classic summer camp pastimes.

Being at camp is a break from screens and cyber- life. Kids interact face-to-face with their peers and practice
communication and social skills without their cell phones. They eat dinner family-style where they learn table manners and how to make conversation with others.

A great camp experience in middle school can be life-changing. Kids may discover interests in the outdoors, science, or art that guide their career paths. Young people come back with new friends and a new confidence in their ability to succeed in a world away from their families.

The cost for the whole week is still only $20 and space is limited!
