MOUNTAIN CULTURE MONTH: Inspiration and Humor in the Arctic
Todd Offenbacher presents BI-POLAR SKI ADVENTURES March 6th at Edison Theatre
Mammoth Lakes, CA - Artistic Director Shira Dubrovner announced that MLRT and Mountain Culture Month are hosting Todd Offenbacher on Wednesday March 6th at Edison Theatre. An adventurer, TV host, and mountain guide hailing from Tahoe, Todd Offenbacher is the director of the Sierra Avalanche Center and founder/host of the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival (coming to the Edison Theatre March 9th). A talented raconteur and daring adventurer, Todd Offenbacher will present Bi-Polar Ski Adventures, a comedic multi-media presentation with video from his recent travels to Artic Svalbard and Antarctica in the past year. His images and videos from summit to sea will inspire, and his sense of humor will make the crustiest of mountain curmudgeons laugh.
“We’re proud to have Todd speak at the beginning of our series,” Webb stated, “He’s traveled through some of the most remote corners of the globe and is such a strong storyteller he can crack jokes about them. That’s Mountain Culture at its finest.”
The Arctic Svalbard and Antarctica are some of the most extreme places on the planet. Antarctica is Earth’s cold, desolate, and undeniably beautiful southern extreme – Svalbard, on the other hand, is one of the last northern outposts of human civilization, a small island between mainland Norway and the North Pole – and Todd Offenbacher has traveled between these two geographic extremes.
An outdoor adventure enthusiast, Todd has toured the world chasing peaks to climb and ski, founded the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival, and currently serves as president of the Sierra Avalanche Center, helping to keep fellow adventurers safe in the greater Tahoe area. If you want to know what kind of person Todd is, look no further than theFestival Host section of the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival Website. It tells his life story in year-by-year snapshots, and includes such gems as: “1981 - Runner up Teenage Mr. America. Atlanta, GA (blue Speedo-thanks for asking)” and “2007 - Sweated like the guy in Midnight Express while climbing in Thailand. First year Tahoe Adventure Film Festival sold out largest showroom in Tahoe.”
For those who have seen Todd speak at past events, don’t worry about a repeat performance: BI-POLAR SKI ADVENTURES is an all-new presentation based on his adventures in the last year. Please join Mammoth Lakes Repertory Theatre at Edison Theatre next Wednesday, March 6th at 7pm for this educational and inspirational series.
