Bishop City Council Holds Public Workshop
on Vacant and Inactive Storefronts
(Bishop) On Wednesday July 11 at 6:00 pm the Bishop City Council will hold a public workshop on existing vacant or inactive storefront conditions in Bishop and potential strategies to incentivize property owners to restore their properties to productive use. The workshop will be held at the Bishop Elks Lodge, located at 151 East Line Street, Bishop, CA. The workshop is intended to explore current conditions concerning commercial property in Bishop, causes of chronically vacant buildings, and potential strategies to address empty storefronts.
Strategies could include consideration of developing ordinances to address underutilized properties, revising the zoning ordinance to allow for residential and mixed-use, and encouraging temporary “pop-up” uses. The workshop will also provide information regarding programs currently available to assist property and business owners with building improvements, commercial leasing structures, and upcoming financing opportunities for local businesses.
The public is encouraged to attend and voice their concerns regarding empty storefronts, contribute additional information on potential causes, and provide input on potential solutions the City Council may consider to address vacant buildings.
