~ One night only, on Friday, April 21st, Independent Project Press will present a Multi-Media Pop-Up Happening: "Exploito A-Go-Go!" In celebration of Record Store Day 2017, an annual event commemorating music in all of it’s physical forms, Independent Project Press will feature a rare film screening of "Music By The Pound: The Crown Records Story," a 45 minute documentary film on the history of Crown Records, a Los Angeles-based budget record label. "Music By The Pound" tells the story of Jules Bihari's family-owned Los Angeles record company, from its roots as a Central Avenue juke box business to its final years as a one-stop budget LP factory, recording studio, pressing plant and distributor in South Central L.A. Its labels included Crown, Modern, Flair, RPM, Kent, United-Superior, Riviera, Discos Corona and others. Filmmaker Jerold Kress will be in attendance to present the film, which will begin at 7 PM. This special film showing will also be accompanied by an exhibit in The Project Room of over 100 record album covers from various exploitation and budget record labels released during the 1960’s and 1970’s from the collection of Bruce Licher, along with a soundtrack consisting of a selection of groovy go-go 1960’s dance music from these LPs. The exhibit and music will start at 5 PM, and an eclectic selection of music in all of it’s most popular physical formats (vinyl, CD and cassette) will be available for sale during the evening. Admission to the 7 PM film screening is free of charge, but we ask that those interested in attending please call or email for a reservation: 760.873.3600 /email@example.com.
