PUT ON YOUR DEEERSLAYER CAPS - “BASKERVILLE”ARRIVES FEBRUARY 9
Ken Ludwig’s farcical take on Sherlock Holmes at Edison Theatre
Mammoth Lakes, Calif. – Mammoth Lakes Repertory Theatre (MLRT) and Artistic Director Shira Dubrovnerannounce the opening of Baskerville, playwright Ken Ludwig’s (Lend Me a Tenor) hilarious spin on the Sherlock Holmes story of the Hound of the Baskervilles, arrives Feb. 9th through the 19th. Directed by Drina Durazo (All the Great Books Abridged and Every Christmas Story Ever Told and then some), this riotous romp features a cast of five L.A. actors, one portraying Sherlock, one portraying Dr. Watson, and 40 other characters played by one woman and two men, including Mammoth’s favorite L.A actor, Brian Stanton (Blank, Every Christmas Story Ever Told, and more).
“After the success of Ludwig’s Lend Me a Tenor, we were looking for another of his farces that would be a great addition to our schedule,” said Dubrovner. “I think we found it with Baskerville. Having Durazo on board to direct the show with the cast she’s assembled will make for a really fun February—something we can all use.”
Time to get your deerstalker cap on—the play’s afoot! Comedic genius transforms Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic The Hound of the Baskervilles into a murderously funny adventure. The male heirs of the Baskerville line are being dispatched one by one. To find their ingenious killer, Holmes and Watson must brave the desolate moors before a family curse dooms its newest heir. Watch as our intrepid investigators try to escape a dizzying web of clues, silly accents, disguises, and deceit. Does a wild hellhound prowl the moors of Devonshire? Can our heroes discover the truth in time? Join the fun and see how far from elementary the truth can be.
"Baskerville is a madcap sendup of what you might hold dear about that Doyle classic, done up in the style of The 39 Steps." - DC Theatre Scene
"The joy in watching [the] witty new play Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery is not in solving the crime but in the plethora of wildly imaginative characters you meet along the way. By dispensing with British formality, Ken Ludwig has given us a play that is ingeniously funny and will keep you guessing until the curtain call." - Broadway World
