Caltrans Scheduled to Close Sierra Passes in Advance of Approaching Storm
BISHOP – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is scheduled to close State Routes 120 (Tioga Pass) and 108 (Sonora Pass) in the Sierra Nevada tomorrow, Thursday, November 2, due to incoming inclement weather. State Route 89 (Monitor Pass) will be open, however, if conditions necessitate, will be closed for the public’s safety.
The closures are scheduled as follows:
· State Route 120 (Tioga Pass) will be closing the lower gate, West to the Yosemite National Park entrance gate at 5:00 p.m. due to incoming inclement weather. This closure is in conjunction with the closure of the Yosemite National Park gate also scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
· State Route 108 (Sonora Pass) from Kennedy Meadows to the East side winter closure gate (West of Pickel Meadows) at 12:00 a.m. (midnight)
· State Route 89 (Monitor Pass) will be under observation, conditions will be assessed throughout the incoming weather for closure if necessary.
The partial reopening of State Route 120 and State Route 108 is dependent upon favorable weather. All road conditions will be assessed on Monday, November 6.
