Open Studio and Holiday Art Sale

The public is invited to come enjoy an OPEN STUDIO AND HOLIDAY ART SALE at Frances Cholewa and Tom Meyers' home and studio in Bishop's McLaren neighborhood this first weekend in December.  A colorful and abundant display of art and ceramic pottery will be installed thoughout the home, studio and garden.

This event is a continuation of a long and successful tradition of art shows in this home, which was formerly the home and studio of painter Peggy Gray. Peggy and Frances showcased their work together during their popular annual home and studio art sale for many years.  Now that Frances and Tom own this beautiful property, they have poured their love into it and multiplied its beauty many times over.  Frances and Tom are living “the dream” of working on their art in a beautiful environment.  With multiple streams on the large property, as well as a lovely pond, they are offering a great way for you to see and purchase art for yourself and for others as a gift.  Come see their work in the place where it was created. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet the artists and learn more about their process of creation.  By viewing the art in their home you can imagine how it may enhance your own world.

Tom Meyers and Frances Cholewa specialize in the creation of functional clay objects and raku pottery.  Gorgeous stoneware, vases, serving bowls, mugs and dishes will be offered in abundance!  Frances and Tom are known for their exquisite hand-crafted work, both in their aesthetic forms and in their glazing techniques and colors.  While visiting you will be able to explore their working clay studio and kiln room.

Also on display throughout the home will be the fine watercolor paintings of Lynn Marit Peterson.  A longtime resident of the Eastern Sierra and primarily a plein air artist, Lynn will offer watercolors of her personal interpretations of the local terrain.  She also enjoys painting a variety of other subject matter including still lifes, people, florals and abstracts and will present those as well.

Karen Nielsen Licher will be exhibiting modern and abstract oil paintings. Karen’s work incorporates the texture and substance of earthen materials directly in her work.  Her recent paintings explore the emotional tone inherent in fields of color.

Bruce Licher will be exhibiting his black and white landscape photography throughout the home.  Licher's photography is well known by many local residents, as well as those who have followed his musical career, as he often photographs locations that inspire his music.  Bruce will also be present with many of his recordings on vinyl and CD along with print editions and greeting cards that he and Karen have designed & printed at their Independent Project Press.
