The City of Bishop will hold an open house on 17 January 2017 to discuss the Spruce, Hanby, Yaney Sidewalks project. This project is proposed to construct sidewalks and bike lanes on streets in and near the back of the Bishop City Park. The open house will build on input and discussion at the first open house held on the project last month, particularly concerning potential environmental impacts of the project.
The $1.2 million project would construct sidewalks and bike lanes on Spruce Street, Hanby Avenue, and East Yaney Street in and adjacent to the City Park. In addition to sidewalks and bike lanes, the project would extend the existing paved path near the community garden (the Pine to Park Path) to the new sidewalk proposed for Hanby Avenue. The project is funded through the state with gas tax funds. A map of the initial project details is available on the city web page http://www.cityofbishop.com/departments/public- works/street-projects/
The open house will be from 6 pm to 8 pm in the conference room in City Hall, 377 West Line Street in Bishop. City and consultant staff involved in the project will be available during the open house to provide information about the environmental studies for the project and to receive public input. Members of the public are encouraged to drop by anytime between 6 pm and 8 pm Tuesday, 17 January.
Environmental studies for the project are underway and it is important that all potential project impacts to the environment and to people are identified now so they can be properly addressed or avoided from the start. Now is the time to provide input and identify potential project issues.

The Reno National Weather Service has high confidence in moderate flooding over the next few days, with the highest flooding risks predicted for Sunday, January 8, through Monday, January 9. A mixture of snow, rain, or freezing rain will occur on Saturday, warming rapidly with torrential rains Saturday night into early Monday. The intense series of atmospheric rivers will result in widespread flooding on creeks, burn areas, urban poor drainage, construction areas, and rivers. This includes the West Walker River, which indicates a very rapid rise on Sunday. These predictions need to be taken seriously. Residents of Mono County who have experienced a history of localized flooding need to be attentive and prepare accordingly. Use the break in weather on Friday to clear snow away from drains and creeks, stock up on water, food, and other necessary provisions. Power failures should also be anticipated. Do not attempt to drive through moving water and stay off of frozen lakes and ponds.
If the weather comes in as predicted, travel should be limited to emergencies only. People already in Mono County should stay home if at all possible, and travelers coming into Mono County should postpone their travel until the weather has passed. Make sure to check the weather and road conditions before traveling, paying special attention to predicted periods of inclement weather, road closures and chain requirements. Mono County Public Works will have emergency sandbags available at the following locations:
District 1 : Crowley Lake Fire Department behind station & Toms Place Crowley Lake Dr. behind asphalt piles
District 3 : Lee Vining Road Shop & June Lake Community Center
District 2 : Benton Road Shop & Chalfant Fire Department
District 4 : Bridgeport Road Shop
District 5 : Walker Road Shop
