MLK Jr. Community Volunteer Day

Saturday, January 14 from 9:00am - 12:30pm

Meet at the Owens Valley Paiute Shoshone Cultural Center (2300 W. Line St. in Bishop)

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, join local Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership Members at Eastern Sierra Land Trust (ESLT) and the Bishop Paiute Tribe for a volunteer day to protect a treasured cultural resource: Rattlesnake Village. Located on the Volcanic Tablelands near Bishop, Rattlesnake Village is a prehistoric occupation site that features more than 42 rock features. Alongside Greg Haverstock, Archaeologist from the Bureau of Land Management, you'll see and learn more about this incredible site as you remove trash, pull weeds, and help protect this special place for future generations. For details and to sign up, contact Indigo Johnson, ESLT AmeriCorps Member and Education Coordinator, at indigo@eslt.org or call (760) 873-4554.

Story Time with Erin Boeme, Dec 17

At Range and River Books in Bishop on December 17, 10:30 AM:

Everyone has favorite Christmas stories, and fond memories of reading them or even better, snuggled in and being read to!  Erin Boeme, whose art studio is in our upstairs space, also has a shelf full of winter  favorites, and has agreed to read some at a special Saturday morning storytime on December 17, at 10:30.

Erin is a mother of two great young readers as well as an instructor at Wild Roots Forest School, an artist, and a story teller. She has entertained our young patrons at recent Halloween parties telling "fortunes" and also shared her students' beautiful artwork on the porch for the Chocolate Art Walk.    We are so pleased to have her share her magic!

Story time is held in the Children's Area at 10:30.  Please bring a pillow to sit on if desired.
